Associate Degree Nursing Overview
College of The Albemarle’s (COA) Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program will teach you the skills needed to provide nursing care to patients in a variety of settings, helping prepare you for the nurse’s role as a patient care provider and member of an interdisciplinary healthcare team.
Employment opportunities include nursing positions with:
- Hospitals
- Medical offices
- Clinics
- Long-term care facilities
- Community agencies
Graduates are eligible to apply to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN) required to practice as a registered nurse (RN).
Accreditation
NOTICE: College of The Albemarle (COA) will host a site visit for continuing accreditation of its Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) & Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN)-ADN Nursing program by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).
You are invited to meet with the site visit team and share comments about the program in person at a meeting scheduled at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Mar. 18, 2025, at the Owens Center, Room 117, 1208 N. Road St. Elizabeth City, NC 27909.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Opportunities
Graduates of the ADN program are encouraged to further their education and professional development by pursuing a BSN. COA has developed an RN to BSN Strategic Transition in Education Progression Center (STEP) to assist registered nurses in completing the prerequisite courses needed for admissions to an RN to BSN program.
RIBN offers an affordable pathway to a four-year BSN degree with concurrent enrollment agreements.
