Associate Degree Nursing Overview

College of The Albemarle’s (COA) Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program will teach you the skills needed to provide nursing care to patients in a variety of settings, helping prepare you for the nurse’s role as a patient care provider and member of an interdisciplinary healthcare team.

Employment opportunities include nursing positions with:

  • Hospitals
  • Medical offices
  • Clinics
  • Long-term care facilities
  • Community agencies

Graduates are eligible to apply to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN) required to practice as a registered nurse (RN).

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Opportunities

Graduates of the ADN program are encouraged to further their education and professional development by pursuing a BSN. COA has developed an RN to BSN Strategic Transition in Education Progression Center (STEP) to assist registered nurses in completing the prerequisite courses needed for admissions to an RN to BSN program.

Articulations and Support Programs

COA has an agreement with ODU for concurrent enrollment in COA’s ADN program and ODU BSN program.
COA has an articulation agreement with Mid-Atlantic Christian University (MACU), allowing students to receive training in both nursing and biblical studies. In a four-year program, you can earn an ADN from COA and a Bachelor of Science in Biblical Studies from MACU. For more information, please call 252-335-0821 ext. 2304.
