The Board of Trustees of College of The Albemarle (COA) is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Jack Bagwell as the 11th President of COA. The North Carolina State Board of Community Colleges met the morning of Sep. 20 and voted to approve the recommendation of Dr. Bagwell, as put forth by COA’s Board of Trustees. Dr. Bagwell will begin at COA the week of Dec. 2, 2019.
In his nearly 28 years as a community college educator, Dr. Bagwell has amassed a broad experience through the positions held within the colleges he has served. He has held faculty, administrative, and senior leadership roles at institutions in South Carolina and has served as the Vice President for Academic Affairs at Piedmont Technical College in Greenwood, South Carolina since 2014.
“Dr. Bagwell brings to COA a tremendous amount of leadership experience, a passion for the educational opportunities available within the community college setting, and a genuine commitment to the relationships built within the community,” stated Marion Harris Jr., Chair of the Board of Trustees at COA. Harris also shared that he and the board “are confident that Dr. Bagwell will be a dynamic and transformative leader for COA and we look forward to working with him on goals and plans for the future.”
Following his selection, Dr. Bagwell stated, “I am incredibly honored to have been selected as the next president of College of The Albemarle. I am grateful to COA’s Board of Trustees for choosing me to lead this wonderful institution. I look forward to being able to contribute to the excellent work the college has been doing. COA has a dedicated group of faculty and staff who serve the college’s students and local communities, and I am excited to partner with them in that work going forward.”
