Dare County Guarantee Scholarship Program

Thanks to the Dare County Guarantee Scholarship Program, funded by Dare County, you may be able to attend College of The Albemarle (COA) with no out-of-pocket expenses for tuition and fees. Curriculum and high demand Workforce Development and Career Readiness (WDCR) programs (continuing education) are included, with priority given to those attending COA – Dare.

Dare WDCR Scholarships are for the high demand workforce training programs which lead to a state or industry recognized credential. Lifelong Learning and enrichment classes are not included under the Dare Guarantee Scholarship program.

The Dare County Guarantee Scholarship Program provides $250,000 to pay any COA tuition and fees not covered by financial aid and scholarships. Awards are based on availability and additional funds may be given for books and computer needs.

Qualifications

To be eligible to receive funding under this program, students must be:

  1. A Dare County resident and;
  2. A high school graduate from public schools, private schools or home school located in Dare County and;
  3. A U.S. citizen or documented lawful permanent resident;
  4. Enrolled (and begin attendance) at COA within 24 months of graduation from high school, private school or home school.

Any remaining funds available from the prior year can be applied to any Dare County residents with priority given to workforce needs for any COA campus and any program. To be eligible to receive funding under this program, students must be:

  1. A Dare County resident and;
  2. A U.S. Citizen or documented lawful permanent resident.

Additional Requirements

  • The Dare Guarantee will cover any unmet tuition, fees and educational expenses for a qualifying student (at the in-state rate) while funds are available. The maximum award for a curriculum student is $6,000 to cover the academic year. The actual cost of the continuing education program will be paid in full after additional scholarships have been applied to their account.

How to Apply

Curriculum Students

  1. Apply to COA
  2. Complete your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  3. Apply for COA Scholarships
  4. Complete the Dare Guarantee application, which will appear in applicant portal if you’re eligible
  5. Complete all steps for admission into your program and register for classes

WDCR Students

  1. Download the Dare Guarantee WDCR application form (PDF)
  2. Return the completed form to continuing education (you’ll find instructions on the form)
  3. Complete all steps for admission to your program
