Concentration Overview

The Associate in Arts Degree is designed to meet the two-year general college requirements of four-year colleges and universities while providing a concentration in education.

Upon Completion of this Concentration, graduates will be able to: Transfer with junior-level status and pursue a teaching degree in the K-12 field of education. This curriculum is suited for students who want to pursue a four-year teaching degree in non-stem areas such as English, History, Social Sciences, Humanities and the Arts.

The Comprehensive Articulation Agreement (CAA) and the Independent Comprehensive Articulation Agreement (ICAA) enables North Carolina community college graduates of two-year associate in arts programs who are admitted to constituent institutions of The University of North Carolina and to Signatory Institutions of North Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities to transfer with junior status.

Partnership: College of The Albemarle (COA) has articulation agreements with certain universities for students transferring into specific programs of study. Students can complete the first two years of that specific baccalaureate degree at COA. Students should check with their advisor.

General Education (32 – 33 SHC): The general education requirement includes study in courses selected from the Universal General Education Transfer Component (UGETC) of the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement. (All UGETC courses in which the student earns a grade of “C” or better will transfer for equivalency credit up to the distribution limits detailed in the CAA.)
