Elizabeth City, North Carolina – College of The Albemarle (COA) is proud to announce Jordan Mitchell as the 2021 winner of the President’s Cup. Jordan was presented with the award during a graduation celebration held on Wednesday, May 12, 2021.
The President’s Cup is given to a graduating student who excels in the classroom, has made significant contributions of service to the college and is active in student activities and in the community. Students are nominated from each campus by faculty and staff members. A dual-enrolled student from Gates County High School, Mitchell received an Associate in Arts, graduating summa cum laude with a 4.0 grade point average. Mitchell served as president of COA’s Nu Nu Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Society, is a Morehead-Cain Scholar finalist and will attend Harvard University in the fall.
Nominated by Jeff Carter, department chair, Allied Health and program coordinator, Health and Physical Education, he shared that Mitchell was the first student he has ever had to finish a wellness course with a perfect average. “I have taught Personal Health and Wellness at COA every semester for 25 years, in both classroom and online formats. I have had many exceptional students, but Jordan was the first student to finish with a perfect average in the course, scoring 100 points on every single test and assignment. The depth and detail she puts into everything she submits is a testament to her academic work ethic.”
Graduating students nominated for Campus Cup awards were Cory Scherer, COA – Currituck, Associate in Arts; ShyAsia Hill, COA – Edenton-Chowan, Associate in Arts; and Michael Lewis, COA – Dare, Associate in Fine Arts in Theatre, summa cum laude.
