Elizabeth City – College of The Albemarle is pleased to announce that its Academic Support Center’s (ASC) tutoring program has been awarded a Level 1 Certification from the internationally recognized College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA). This is a significant achievement, underscoring COA’s commitment to fostering academic excellence and enhancing student success.
For over thirty years, CRLA has been a leader in learning assistance, reading, and academic support programs. They have nearly 1,300 members and over 2,000 certified training programs worldwide.
Achieving this recognition involved a process where the Academic Support Center strived diligently to align its tutor training program with the stringent standards set forth by the CRLA. Following a peer review process under the International Tutor Training Program Certification (ITTPC), the ASC emerged successfully, showcasing its commitment to quality and excellence in educational support. It further establishes the ASC as a hub where students receive service that is enriching and aligned with the highest academic tutoring standards.
“We are extremely proud to receive this certification,” stated Robin Robertson, COA Academic Support, Tutoring, and Testing Center Coordinator. “We are committed to providing our students with academic support and resources to ensure they are successful. We offer several support sessions monthly, one-on-one tutoring with extended hours, study groups, testing services, writing support, and more. We encourage all of our students to take advantage of the academic support available at COA and let’s “Transform Your Tomorrow” together.”
Dr. Evonne Carter, COA Vice President of Learning shared, “We are excited to celebrate this noteworthy accomplishment. The Certification not only stands as a testament to the dedication and hard work of the ASC team but also amplifies its role as a pillar in fostering the academic success of students at College of The Albemarle. Congratulations to the ASC team, your efforts have culminated in an achievement that resonates with distinction and excellence.”
