College of The Albemarle Celebrates Outstanding Employees with Annual Awards

Elizabeth City, N.C. – College of The Albemarle (COA) proudly announces the recipients of its prestigious annual employee recognition awards. These awards, presented during COA’s Faculty and Staff Appreciation Day on April 26th, recognize exemplary contributions from employees who have demonstrated exceptional dedication and service to the college community.

President Bagwell expressed his gratitude and admiration for this year’s recipients: “These outstanding individuals exemplify the values and dedication that define COA. Their unwavering commitment to excellence in education and service inspires us all and contributes immeasurably to the success of our institution. Congratulations to each award recipient.”

Institutional Support Staff Employee of the Year: Brad Stafford

Brad Stafford, groundskeeper and maintenance mechanic, has been named Institutional Support Staff Employee of the Year. With nearly 16.5 years of service to COA, Brad’s unwavering commitment to maintaining our campus grounds and warm, welcoming presence have made him an indispensable asset to the college community.

Para-Professional Staff Employee of the Year and 2024-25 NC Community College System Staff Award Nominee: Joshua Alcocer

Joshua Alcocer, institutional researcher, has been honored as the Para-Professional Staff Employee of the Year and the 2024-25 NC Community College System Staff Award Nominee. In just over three years at COA, Joshua’s remarkable work ethic and dedication to the college’s mission have been exemplary. His multifaceted contributions, from his involvement in various committees to his innovative solutions, truly embody the spirit of excellence. Joshua and other community college nominees will be considered for the NC Community College System Staff Award in the fall, with the announcement anticipated in the spring of 2025.

Dr. Kimberly Gregory, the College and Career Readiness Director, was the 2023-24 North Carolina Community College System Staff Award Nominee.

 

Professional Staff Employee of the Year: Andrew DeFeo

Andrew DeFeo, systems administrator, has been recognized as the Professional Staff Employee of the Year. With just over eight years of service to COA, Andrew’s wealth of knowledge and unwavering support have been instrumental in ensuring the smooth operation of technical systems and providing invaluable assistance to colleagues.

 

 

Faculty Excellence Award: Dr. Felix Buabeng

Dr. Felix Buabeng, assistant professor and program coordinator of Agribusiness Technology, has been honored with the Faculty Excellence Award. With just over five years of service, Dr. Buabeng’s dedication to agricultural education and his commitment to enriching students’ learning experiences have left an indelible mark on the college and the community.

 

Faculty Excellence Award: Andrea Thomas

Andrea Thomas, associate professor and program coordinator of Health and Fitness Science, has been celebrated with the Faculty Excellence Award. With nearly 20 years of service, Andrea’s passion for teaching and her dedication to student success have set a standard of excellence in health and fitness education.

 

North Carolina Community College System/R.J. Reynolds Excellence in Teaching Award Nominee for 2024-25: Walter Meads

Walter Meads, assistant professor and Emergency Medical Science Program Coordinator, has been nominated for the North Carolina Community College System/R.J. Reynolds Excellence in Teaching Award. With over 23 years of service, Walter’s exemplary leadership, dedication, and commitment to student success have profoundly impacted the college and the wider community. Walter is the 2024-25 Teacher of the Year for College of The Albemarle.

Sandra Krueger, instructor and drama director, was the 2023-24 North Carolina Community College System/R. J. Reynolds Excellence in Teaching Award Nominee and COA Teacher of the Year.

These outstanding individuals exemplify COA’s commitment to excellence in education and service, and we extend our heartfelt congratulations to each of them on their well-deserved recognition.
