College of The Albemarle Trustee Dr. Andrea Williams Appointed to NCACCT Executive Board

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – College of The Albemarle (COA) proudly announces that Dr. Andrea Williams, a member of the COA Board of Trustees since August 2022, has been appointed to the Executive Board of the North Carolina Association of Community College Trustees (NCACCT), representing Region 6. Williams was first appointed to the NCACCT Executive Board in 2023 to fill a vacancy and has now been selected for her first full term. This marks the third time a COA trustee has been appointed to the NCACCT Executive Board, with two others serving in the 1980s.

A lifelong advocate for educational access, Williams brings decades of experience to this statewide leadership role. She served College of The Albemarle from 1979 to 2009 in a wide range of student-centered positions, including adult basic education instructor and recruiter, counselor/tutor coordinator for special services, director of student support services, assistant to the president for grants and programs, ADA coordinator and director of TRIO programs. Her career also includes service with Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools, the North Carolina Department of Natural Resources and Community Development, and as a licensed realtor. She holds degrees from Elizabeth City State University, Atlanta University School of Social Work, and a doctorate in education from North Carolina State University.

“I’m honored to represent Region 6 and advocate for the role community colleges play in transforming lives and communities,” Williams said. “I look forward to collaborating with my peers across the state to strengthen access, innovation and opportunity in higher education.”

“Dr. Williams brings vision, heart and leadership to every role she serves,” said Tommy Fulcher, Chair, COA Board of Trustees. “This recognition highlights her long-standing dedication to student achievement and to strengthening the role of community colleges in North Carolina.”

“Dr. Williams is a strong addition to our executive board,” said Julie Woodson, president and CEO of NCACCT. “Her passion for education and service to her community will help shape the future of community colleges in North Carolina, and we are excited to have her leadership at the table.”

The NCACCT Executive Board plays a critical role in guiding trustee development, shaping policy and advocating for the state’s 58 community colleges. Williams’ appointment affirms COA’s leadership and continued impact within North Carolina’s higher education landscape.
