Elizabeth City, North Carolina — College of The Albemarle’s (COA) Alumni Association held its first annual meeting on Friday, Dec. 4, 2020. The meeting, held virtually, invited all members of the Alumni Association to attend and hear reports on the work the board completed throughout the year, nomination of officers, membership drive results and the announcement of the raffle prize winner of a one-week stay in the Outer Banks.
To commemorate the college’s 60th anniversary, and in an effort to increase membership, the Alumni Association offered new members the option to join as a Lifetime Member at a discounted rate of $60 (normally $100). Thanks to the membership drive, the association now includes 136 members. Mr. Robert Pippen Jr. won a will package donated by Hornthal, Riley, Ellis and Maland for recruiting the largest number of new members to join the association. The association also held a raffle for a chance to win a one-week stay at “Over the Dune,” a 3,000-square-foot cottage located in Kitty Hawk, donated by Margaret and Wilson Jones Jr. One hundred ten tickets were sold, raising $5,500 in support of COA Cares, an initiative that helps students who may be struggling with unexpected financial burdens that could hinder their program completion.
Lucretia White, program Coordinator and Assistant Professor, Academic Foundations – English, Arts and Sciences, was the winning name drawn for the raffle. “I am elated to have won the Over the Dune raffle, sponsored by COA’s Alumni Association to benefit the COA Cares program,” shared White. “My family and I are very appreciative of COA, COA’s Alumni Association and to the Jones family for their generous donation. We are eagerly anticipating our vacation!”
“I would like to thank all the alumni and friends of COA who joined the association for their support in our first year and their continued support in the years to come,” said Robert Pippen Jr., President of COA’s Alumni Association. “Also, a huge thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of our raffle.”
