College of The Albemarle (COA) – Elizabeth City is home to the stunning Fenwick-Hollowell Wetlands Trail. The trail runs along the river behind the campus and is a favored walking space for many throughout the community. With April being “Arts Month,” the Art Club at COA, in collaboration with Arts of the Albemarle, Green Saves Green and the Albemarle Family YMCA wanted to find a way to celebrate the Arts while also recognizing the beauty of the trail. They collectively developed a community-based art project and exhibition, “What I Saw.”
“What I Saw” encourages community members of all ages to enjoy a walk on the Fenwick-Hollowell Wetlands Trail, creating a watercolor painting of what they see along the way. Community members can deliver their artwork to Arts of the Albemarle to be featured in an exhibition throughout April. Paintings may be dropped off at Arts of the Albemarle throughout April. On April 28th, a panel will judge the submitted works, announcing the top three pieces that best represent the trail.
Free watercolor art kits will be available beginning April 4th at the locations listed below. Instructions for this activity will be included in the kits and available at www.albemarle.edu/trail.

You can walk the trail and paint on your own or visit the trail on Friday, April 21st, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. for a community painting event before “COA Star Nights,” which begins at 7:00 p.m.
