College of The Albemarle Holds Graduation and Coining Ceremony for Paramedics

Elizabeth City, N.C. – College of The Albemarle (COA) celebrated its Fall 2024 paramedic graduates with a coining ceremony on Thursday, Nov. 13, at 4 p.m. This special event honored the students’ hard work and achievements by presenting challenge coins – a symbolic recognition of excellence, similar to the pins awarded in other medical programs.

Congratulations to the graduates (l-r): Anthony Parker, Currituck Fire and EMS; Mark Soady, Pasquotank County EMS; Reagan Hemingway, Dare County EMS; Amber Todd, Dare County EMS; Brian Meade, Currituck Fire and EMS; and Scott Kolar, Currituck Fire and EMS.

 

Several graduates were recognized during the ceremony for outstanding academic and field-related achievements:

  • Reagan Hemingway received an award for achieving the highest class average.
  • Brian Meade and Anthony Parker were commended for their excellence in clinical and field intubations.
  • Scott Kolar was presented with an award for excellence in pacing.
  • Both Scott Kolar and Brian Meade were honored for their expertise in cardioversion.
  • Brian Meade and Anthony Parker were also recognized for their service in delivering a baby while on duty with Currituck Fire and EMS.

 

“We celebrate the accomplishments of these paramedics and the dedication they have shown to their training and communities,” said Walter Meads, EMS Program Coordinator. “Each of them represents the future of emergency medical care and will play an invaluable role in ensuring the health and safety of our region. At COA, we are proud to offer a wide range of emergency medical services (EMS) training, from foundational courses like emergency medical responder to advanced certifications, including paramedic and the associate degree bridge program. Our commitment is to equip these professionals with the skills and knowledge they need to excel.”
