Elizabeth City, North Carolina — Members of College of The Albemarle’s (COA) administration met at Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) on March 7 for an ECSU Co-Admission Agreement signing ceremony. The ceremony encompassed the signing of two agreements; a co-admission agreement for students of COA guaranteeing admission to ECSU upon completion of an Associate in Arts, Associate in Science or Associate in Fine Arts degree, and a bilateral agreement for COA Health and Fitness Science students to transfer into ECSU’s Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology.
The co-admission agreement was designed to improve transfer student access and success through a collaborative baccalaureate degree program. Prior to applying for co-admission, COA students must be in their first year of community college enrollment, with a minimum of 12 semester hours in Associate in Arts, Associate in Science or Associate in Fine Arts, while maintaining at least a 2.0 GPA. Benefits for the students include guaranteed admission to ECSU upon graduation in one of the degree programs listed above, joint academic advising, joint financial aid counseling, and eligible to receive an ECSU student ID card that allows COA students to also attend ECSU events.
The bilateral agreement for the Bachelor of Science: Kinesiology/Fitness and Wellness at ECSU is a collaborative effort to facilitate the transfer of students graduating from COA’s Associate in Applied Science: Health and Fitness Science into the Kinesiology program. COA students who maintain a 2.5 GPA and graduate with the associate degree can then seamlessly transfer to the Kinesiology program at ECSU. All college transfer coursework completed in the Health & Fitness Science program at COA will be accepted as equivalent courses for the Kinesiology program.
The co-admission agreement is the first that ECSU has ever had with a community college and the intent of both agreements is to facilitate transfer to ECSU after completion of a COA degree. Chancellor Karrie Dixon shared that the ongoing collaborative efforts between COA and ECSU help to provide a brighter, intentional pathway for our students. Dr. Robert Wynegar said that COA was honored to be the first community college to partner with ECSU on the co-admission agreement and the continued relationship between the two institutions provides a tremendous benefit for all of our students.
